Just like humans, dogs can suffer from allergies, and allergy season is in full swing. Common allergens that can affect dogs are things that can be inhaled (like mold, dust mites or pollen), different foods and skin irritants.

Common signs of allergies in dogs include itching, red inflamed skin, dry skin, loss of fur, eye irritation and excessive licking of paws.
The following are treatment options that can help your dog beat their spring allergies:
Set up a vet visit. Speak with your veterinarian about the best treatment plan for your dog. This may mean a prescription for cortisones, antihistamines or medicated shampoos. The vet might also recommend giving your pup Omega-3 fatty acid supplements.
Your dog might be having a reaction to something in their food. Ask your vet about trying an elimination diet with your dog. Feed them one protein at a time and see if you can determine what is triggering an allergic reaction.
