A man was arrested Friday in Vancouver in connection with an April 1 homicide in Portland’s Hazelwood neighborhood.
Officers with the Vancouver Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Damariea R. Harris, 31, of Portland on warrants for second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault — all with a firearm — as well as unlawful use of a weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Clark County Jail, according to a Portland Police Bureau news release.
Authorities are in the process of extraditing Harris to Multnomah County, Ore.
Portland police responded at 5:35 p.m. April 1 to reports that two people had been shot in the 9900 block of Southeast Stark Street, according to a prior police news release.
When officers arrived, they found one person suffering life-threatening wounds and a second person, later identified as Morieo Camel-Harris, dead.
The medical examiner determined Camel-Harris, 35, of Portland died of homicide by gunshot wound, according to Portland police.
