Weather Eye: Pacific Northwest’s rather tranquil weather continues

Friday’s weather front was hardly noticeable, with only a few sprinkles or a light shower late Thursday evening around Clark County. Vancouver officially had only .02 of an inch, which was typical of most of the county. The front didn’t penetrate much at all east of the coastal mountains.

This weekend, we will have fair skies, with more clouds on Sunday. Highs will be in the 70s today and 65 to 70 degrees on Sunday.

Our monthly rainfall in Vancouver is running about three-quarters of an inch below normal. Our average temperature is 1 degree above normal.

Another weak weather system is dropping down the B.C. coast, but this one will avoid California and slide mostly through southern British Columbia. Therefore, any rain that falls Monday and Tuesday would once again be on the light side, and we could end up with nothing measurable.

After that disturbance, we will have great spring weather the rest of next week into the weekend, with highs of 70 degrees or better. The only day I foresee a chance of frost next week is Wednesday morning.

Weather can express itself with ups, downs and extremes that keep forecasters busy. Compared to the extreme weather in the rest of the nation, the Pacific Northwest is rather tranquil — nothing to write home about and surely nothing to complain about.

Enjoy the fair weather this weekend. I forecasted the pleasant weather for my birthday on Sunday. I’m glad nature will play along with that wish.
