Letter: Look beyond party labels

By Michael Seitzinger, Vancouver

The U.S. House of Representatives is dysfunctional largely due to 30 ultra-conservative members. These members are frequently blocking legislation, often at the last minute because of unrelated issues. They have blocked GOP-sponsored legislation (their own party) to raise the national debt limit (pay existing debt), approve a national budget, fund support for Ukraine in its war against Russia and secure the southern border. They are a congressional minority, yet their constant disruption prevents Congress from passing legislation that will move this nation forward.

Voters are to blame for this situation and are the only ones who can correct it by looking beyond party labels and voting for candidates who can work with others to find common ground and put the good of the country above their own selfish agenda.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
