PORTLAND — Tyson Jugnauth and Kyle Chyzowski each scored two goals as the Portland Winterhawks routed the Everett Silvertips 8-2 Friday in Game 1 of their second-round Western Hockey League playoff series.
Jan Špunar made 21 saves on 23 shots for his fifth straight win.
Jugnauth grabbed the game’s first goal on a stellar solo effort, going coast to coast before tucking a shot under the bar at 2:38 of the first.
Tyson Yaremko then doubled the lead with a spin-around wrister from the high slot at 11:50. Josh Davies tacked on a goal for Portland 33 seconds later.
Another early Jugnauth strike, this time on a shorthanded 2-on-1 with James Stefan, made it 4-1 Hawks, and the rout was on.
Chyzowski sandwiched an Everett goal from Parker Berge with two power-play goals of his own to make it 6-2 Portland heading into the third period, where Nate Danielson and Jack O’Brien had goals to finish the victory.
