Prep highlights: Ziebell throws no-hitter as River baseball hands Woodland first 2A GSHL loss

Zach Ziebell threw a no-hitter as Columbia River baseball beat Woodland 3-0 on Monday.

Last year’s 2A Greater St. Helens League pitcher of the year, Ziebell allowed just one walk and struck out eight.

Ziebel, a senior who has committed to Pacific Lutheran, threw just 77 pitches including 53 strikes.

After spending last week playing games in California during spring break, Columbia River returned to league play at home by handing Woodland its first 2A GSHL loss.

The Rapids (3-5 overall, 3-1 2A GSHL) had just three hits but took advantage of eight Woodland walks. Two of those were by Noah Larson, who scored two runs.

Harrison Hoffarth also drew two walks and had a sacrifice fly. Charlie Palmersheim went 2 for 3.

Woodland fell to 4-1 in league play and 6-2 overall.

Stars of the day

  • James Gill Battle Ground baseball, pitched a complete game in a 4-3 win over Camas, allowing four hits, one walk and striking out 10.
  • Shay Bradley, Hudson’s Bay baseball, went 2 for 2 with four runs scored and two RBI in a 17-0 win over Fort Vancouver.
  • Caden Spanier, Skyview baseball, went 2 for 3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI in a 7-0 win over Union.
  • Ainsley Schweitzer, Camas softball, was 3 for 3 with a three-run double and also pitched two innings without giving up a hit in the Papermakers 13-3 non-league win over W.F. West.
  • Easton Marshall, Kelso baseball, went 4 for 5 with a double and three runs scored as the Hilanders beat Mountain View 16-6 to improve to 10-0 this season.
  • Landon Rayner, Evergreen baseball, reached base five times in a 17-5 win over Heritage. He went 2 for 3 with a double, two walks, three runs scored and two RBI.
  • Liam Ostrom, Ridgefield baseball, went 3 for 4 with two RBI in a 11-1 win over Washougal.
  • Grant Gumringer, Hockinson baseball, his two-RBI double keyed a three-run sixth inning in a 5-2 win over Mark Morris.
  • Kai Brausell, Columbia-White Salmon baseball, went 5 for 6 with five RBI and four runs scored as the Bruins swept a doubleheader over Riverside (Ore.) 25-1 and 22-1.
  • Gavin McBride, Kalama baseball, went 2 for 3 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored in a 13-0 win over Winlock.
