The new main terminal at Portland International Airport is now scheduled to open in August — after a three-month delay.
“Building stuff you’re proud of takes time — sometimes three months longer than planned,” a news release said.
The delay gives construction crews breathing room after a series of near accidents led to a three-day pause in February, according to the Oregonian.
The new main terminal is part of the $2 billion PDX Next project, primarily funded by airlines. Also encompassed in PDX Next: extending Concourse B, replacing Concourse A, the extended Concourse E, and the new transportation plaza and rental car center.
Monday eclipse viewing available
Stan Seeberg, former chairman of the Vancouver Sidewalk Astronomers, will set up his telescope Monday morning so folks can get glimpses of the solar eclipse that’s expected between 10:34 a.m. and 12:19 p.m.
Unless it’s cloudy or rainy, Seeberg will set up his telescope in the parking lot of Big 5 Sporting Goods, 8313 N.E. Highway 99 in Hazel Dell. In addition to the solar eclipse, sun spots may be visible, he said.
The eclipse will appear total only within a narrow band in the central and eastern United States. In the Pacific Northwest, it will be only partial, with about one-quarter of the sun’s disc covered by the moon.
