Letter: Trump is to blame for his problems

Reading Elden Ferris’ letter (“Trump name has value,” The Columbian, March 30), I am so very grateful that a mandatory civics course is required for every high school graduate. I am filled with hope that our next generation will better understand: 1. Our American history and current events, and 2. How to develop civility and thoughtful discussions, rather than devolving into the histrionic and hurtful ranting so prevalent today.

Yes, Mr. Trump is hurting. But he has created his own bed in which he has to lie. Let the courts decide that; it is not our business until election time. Rather than a knee-jerk reaction to his claims, (e.g. “I am your savior” speech), perhaps less emotion and more curiosity about the future of our nation needs to be our focus.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
