Letter: Trump causes disorder

Disorder at the border pales compared to America’s deeper troubles. Disorder is destroying our nation. Across our land, opposing camps divide America. Donald Trump, the king of chaotic disorder, again seeks the presidency. Trump doesn’t solve problems. He creates them.

As president, Trump disrupted trade, enriched the 1 percent, accelerated the increase of national debt, bungled the COVID response, started the inflationary spiral, stoked insurrection, derailed international alliances, retreated from America’s healing stabilizing and peacekeeping roles, and generally spread lies and disorder.

Expecting order in a second Trump residency denies reality.

The legacy of Trump’s presidential disorder lands like casualty counts of a major war, hundreds of thousands of dead and disabled Americans. As COVID felled a huge swath of Americans, others are striking out with fists, guns, and automobiles.

Putting up walls and retreating inwardly has never worked well. America is greater when assisting others to overcome challenges. Many immigration problems grew as our assistance diminished. President Joe Biden negotiated significant progress for controlling immigration, but Trump torpedoed the bipartisan deal. Biden’s effective administration continues to fix much of Trump’s disorder.
