More than 300 personnel continue to fight dozens of fires in the northern portion of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, where containment had reached 12 percent by Monday.

The Cowlitz Complex Fire spans 661 acres within the forest’s more than 1.3 million acres, according to the complex management team. In late August, a lightning storm rolled through the region and ignited more than 45 fires across the Cowlitz Valley, several of which continue to burn.

Trail and road closures can be found at https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident-information/wagpf-cowlitz-complex.

Open fires are prohibited across the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Further fire restrictions can be found on the U.S. Forest Service’s website, www.fs.usda.gov/main/giffordpinchot/fire. For more information about the Cowlitz Complex Fire, call 360-208-8075 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. or email 2023.cowlitzcomplex@firenet.gov.
