KALAMA – Junior quarterback Aiden Brown threw for 173 yards and a touchdown, and added 81 yards rushing and a touchdown for Kalama, and the defense held Castle Rock scoreless for the last 3 ½ quarters in a 16-7 victory at Kalama High School.
The Chinooks (1-1) scored all of their points in the second quarter on a Brown 15-yard scramble and a 25-yard touchdown pass from Brown to junior running back Drew Schlangen. Brown finished the game with 173 yards passing and 81 yards rushing in Kalama’s home opener.
Castle Rock (0-2), despite playing without senior running back Stephen Isben who scored both of its touchdowns last week, took a 7-0 lead halfway through the first quarter on a five-yard pass from junior quarterback Trevor Rogen to junior wide receiver Owen Langdon. Isben, last year’s 1A Trico League Player of the Year, missed the game with a leg injury.
Rogen finished with 171 yards passing. Langdon had eight catches in the game and the Castle Rock defense intercepted four passes, two of which were inside their own 10-yard line.
