Josh Bell made a pivotal fourth-down stop and Brayden Malella had an interception in the end zone as the Ridgefield defense stepped up big late in a 27-21 win over W.F. West on Friday at Chehalis.
Malella, a senior quarterback, completed 11 of 16 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a 7-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to put the Spudders up 27-21.
W.F. West drove downfield on its next possession. But on fourt-and-2 at the Spudders 7, Josh Bell made a tackle on Tucker Land at the 6 to force a turnover on downs with six minutes to play.
After the Bearcats got the ball back, Malella came up with an interception in the end zone with 2:57 left. The Spudders then ran out the clock for the victory.
