WOODLAND — Junior running back Elijah Anderson rushed for 168 yards and sophomore running back Karsen Northcutt added 87 rushing yards as Woodland defeated Kalama 44-30 at Beaver Stadium on Friday.
All told the Beavers (1-0) gained 245 yards on the ground and scored touchdowns on five consecutive possessions in the first half. Anderson found the end zone four times (three rushing, one receiving) and Northcutt scored two touchdowns on the ground for Woodland.
Kalama (0-1) kept up with the Beavers in the first half behind the arm and legs of junior quarterback Aiden Brown. Brown scored on a 60-yard touchdown run and threw two touchdown passes, one to Ethan Brightbill and another to Drew Schlangen. Brown accounted for 338 yards of total offense (230 passing, 108 rushing) for the game.
Kalama seemingly pulled to within six points in the third quarter on a Brown 67-yard touchdown run on 4th and 1, but offsetting penalties negated the play. On the replay, Brown was stuffed for a loss and Woodland took over on the Chinook 32 yard line. Three plays later, Northcutt scored from 10 yards out and the 14 (or 15 point swing) gave the Beavers a 41-22 lead.
