Prep Highlights: Hockinson soccer shocks unbeaten Tumwater in district playoffs

Hockinson girls soccer opened the Class 2A District 4 tournament with a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Tumwater on the road Tuesday.

Abby Dombrow scored an unassisted goal in the first half. Hockinson’s defense then earned the shutout led by seven saves from freshman goalkeeper Audrey Armstrong.

Hockinson (10-6-0) finished fourth in the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League. The Hawks will travel to face Ridgefield in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday with the winner clinching a state playoff berth.

Evergreen Conference champion Tumwater (15-1-1) reached last year’s state semifinals and had allowed just one goal, which came in their season-opener on Sept. 2. The Thunderbirds face Aberdeen in a loser-out match on Thursday.

RIDGEFIELD 2 ABERDEEN 0 — Tori Lasch scored both goals as the Spudders advanced to the district semifinals.

Savannah Semlik set up Lasch’s goal in the first half. The junior forward then scored in the second half on an assist by Abby Vance.

COLUMBIA RIVER 7, WOODLAND 0 — Seven different players scored as the Rapids advanced to the 2A district semifinals.

River, the reigning state champ, will host R.A. Long on Thursday.

Ivy Henderson and Remy Buckley each had a goal and an assist.

R.A LONG 5, W.F. WEST 0 — Kathryn Chapin and Alice Anderson each scored twice as the Lumberjills won a first-round match on the road.

SETON CATHOLIC 1, EATONVILLE 0 — CJ Moore converted a penalty kick in the first half as the Cougars advanced in the Class 1A District 4 tournament.

Hailey Hammerstrom made three saves to earn the shutout in the loser-out match at Seton.

The Cougars (13-4) will travel to face Evergreen Conference champion Montesano in a winner-to-state match Thursday.

ELMA 3, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 0 — The Knights season came to an end with a road loss in the 1A District 4 tournament.

4A BI-DISTRICT — No. 4 seed Camas and No. 9 seed Skyview both won loser-out matches and will face each other on Thursday at a site to be determined.

Camas beat Graham-Kapowsin 3-1 and then Skyview beat Kentwood 2-1. Both matches were played at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.
