As we discussed a few days ago, colder weather is on the way. It will feel like winter has arrived and pushed autumn out of the picture.
The mountains will get a nice dump of snow with perhaps 4 to 6 inches of snow over the passes. Factor that in if heading over the Cascades.
Our highs will linger in the 50s and lows in the 30s with good chances of frost as skies partially clear. Showers will come and go, especially later in the week.
As the coldest batch of air arrives Thursday and Friday we may struggle to get out of the 40s. Snow levels drop to 1,000 feet with our friends in our local foothills raising an eyebrow or two. You may see snow mixed in here at city levels.
I don’t expecting sticking snow at lowest levels but who knows during overnight hours. Weather doesn’t surprise me anymore.
Up to now Vancouver has been running nearly 5 degrees above average for the month. That will tumble downward quickly. Frost on the pumpkins is on the horizon.
We are at the peak of the fall colors this week and with freezing temperatures those leaves will quickly drop. I expect some brisk northerly winds that will enhance the leaf drop. One good thing with colder temperatures, the grass will slow down its growth. We trade grass mowing for leaf raking.
The snow that piles up in the ski areas won’t get melted off too quickly, as I don’t see a rapid warm-up. We’ll update that in Thursday’s column.
Take good care and dig out the cold weather attire and enjoy the change of seasons.
