Camas edged Ridgefield in five sets on Monday in a stellar non-league volleyball clash between two state powers.
Camas, ranked No. 1 in the latest Class 4A state coaches poll, won the fifth-set tiebreaker 15-9. That came after four tight sets against a Ridgefield team that has made the last four Class 2A state championship matches, winning state titles in 2018 and 2019.
Ridgefield took the first set 25-23 before Camas won the next two 25-20 and 25-23. The Spudders took the fourth set 25-23.
Ella Thompson had a team-high 17 kills for Camas, which improved to 12-0. Halle Reiter had 17 digs and five aces. Kendall Mairs had 12 kills and 11 digs while Emmah Sanchez added 15 digs and four aces.
Stanford-bound Lizzy Andrew had 23 kills and five blocks to lead the Spudders. Hailey McEllrath had 11 kills, 11 digs and five aces.
Ridgefield (13-3) is ranked No. 9 in the Class 2A coaches poll with its other two losses coming to top-ranked Columbia River in 2A Greater St. Helens League play.
Kelso hands Prairie first loss
The Prairie volleyball team suffered it first loss in the 3A Greater St. Helens League, falling at Kelso 3-1 on Monday.
After losing two tight first sets 25-22 and 25-22, the Falcons came out hot.
Prairie took at 15-0 lead over the Hilanders in the third set on their way to winning it 25-5.
The Falcons then held a 15-11 lead in the fourth set before Kelso found its rhythm to take the match with a 25-17 win.
Ali Millspaugh led the Falcons with 12 kills, Eme Cecil had a team-high 16 digs, and Marissa Raley had 22 assists.
Prairie (11-2, 5-1 3A GSHL) won the first meeting against Kelso (10-3, 4-1) with a 3-0 sweep last week.
