WOODLAND – The Woodland Beavers won their fourth straight game and set up a showdown with Ridgefield next week for the 2A Greater St. Helens League title with a 42-7 win over the Mark Morris Monarchs at Beaver Stadium in Woodland.
However it was not all good news for the Beavers (5-1 in league play, 6-2 overall), as junior standout running back/wide receiver Elijah Andersen remained down on the turf after scoring on a seven-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Andersen appeared to grab his knee while on the ground, but walked off under his own power and was walking without a limp on the sidelines.
Andersen played a key role in the Woodland victory, intercepting a pass on the game’s opening series and returning it 61 yards to the Mark Morris 14. Two plays later, sophomore Karson Northcutt scored from a yard out to give Woodland a lead it would never lose.
Andersen would score two more touchdowns in the quarter, one on a 13-yard pass from Brett Martynowicz and another on a 65-yard punt return.
