No one could catch Sam Soto or Lilah Zimmerman at Vancouver Lake.

Soto, a junior at Seton Catholic, won the 1A Trico League boys cross country title Wednesday by 25 seconds, while Zimmerman, a freshman at Columbia of White Salmon, won the girls race by 33 seconds.

Both also helped their team win league titles as well.

Soto’s winning time of 15 minutes, 34 seconds over the 5,000-meter course beat La Center junior Carter Sherry (16:59), and Seton teammate Cohen Thomas (17:26).

Seton also placed runners Oliver Dortmund in fifth, Ben Ross in 10th and Azriel Salcedo in 13th for 32 points and a team title. La Center was second with 38.

Zimmerman’s time of 19:50 over 5,000 meters outdistanced La Center freshman Sasha Pash (20:23), and Seton senior Avery Garrison (20:29).

With Columbia runners Damarys Alvarez, Reyna Pinchot, Raina McAllister and Leah Swanson packed in at 11th-14th places, the Bruins edged out Seton 51-54 for the girls team title.
