With around a month left until Vancouver’s third Safe Stay must be completed, the city is making progress on the location of the downtown temporary homes, including giving the site a name: 415 West.
Plumbing, electrical, paving and fencing work is underway at the site at 415 West 11th St. Once the lot is prepared, 20 pallet shelters and a community gathering center will be built on the property.
Local outreach teams, including the city of Vancouver’s Homeless Assistance Resource Team and Outsiders Inn, the organization that runs Vancouver’s first Safe Stay, The Outpost, started creating a list of people from the downtown area that could potentially move into 415 West.
Those groups are processing applications and background checks for those individuals, according to Jamie Spinelli, the city of Vancouver’s homelessness response coordinator.
