WASHOUGAL – Washougal stormed for four touchdowns in the third quarter on the way to 56-15 rout of R.A. Long in a 2A GSHL football game on a rainy Homecoming night on Friday at Fishback Stadium.
The Panthers (5-2 overall, 3-2 2A GSHL) forced a pair of turnovers and returned a blocked punt for a touchdown as the score snowballed after halftime.
Washougal quarterback Holden Bea led the attack, accounting for 210 yards passing and four touchdowns while adding 73 yards on the ground. His main target, senior wideout Sam Evers, hauled in four passes for 92 yards and a pair of scores, all in the first half. Running back Will Cooper added 69 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the win.
R.A. Long (1-6, 0-5) kept pace early, tying the score late in the first quarter on a 1-yard sneak from quarterback Nicholas Niday, but was unable to get on the scoreboard again until the very last second. The Lumberjacks used a pair of timeouts to stop the running clock and draw up a 9-yard pass from Niday to Aeybel Milian with no time left. A conversion pass completed the scoring for the night.
