Weather Eye: Fall pattern of wet then dry days gets into full swing

I would say we are well into autumn with blustery winds and quickly changing skies. Leaves are fluttering throughout the moist air; the grass is growing faster than a leapfrog on a mission and the fall mushrooms are surging up through the damp soil. Migrating birds are getting in their migrating formations and squirrels are busy as a beaver stashing their winter food supply in hidden alcoves.

Don’t you love fall? I know many of you do and are enjoying the change of seasons, the colorful leaves (maybe not the raking) and of course the seasonal treats and drinks. I see fields of pumpkins waiting for a home and when skies clear later today and briefly on Friday, some new snow once again on the higher peaks.

Wednesday there were some heavy downpours; I know I was caught in one while crossing the river to Portland. Then I reached totally dry pavement and sunshine. And so it goes much like springtime.

With a break in the weather action today and early Friday, some unsettled weather returns over the weekend lasting into early next week. Then in the middle of next week we could enjoy a couple dry days again. We are now entrained in the usual fall weather pattern of a few wet days and then a couple dry days. Plan your activities accordingly.

For upcoming outdoor events, Friday night high school games could be on the wetter side if clouds thicken enough with an incoming weather system. A trip to the pumpkin patch this weekend would entail off-and-on showers, but only light rain is expected. There will be some breaks here and there. Make a dash when the shower action retreats. It won’t be a washout but no guarantee of dry weather, either.

I love weather statistics. Look at this: In Vancouver the high temperature Monday and Tuesday was 64 degrees and as of 4 p.m. Wednesday it was also 64 degrees. Maybe I will buy a lottery ticket, eh?

We will chat again in a couple of days and see what’s happening in the realm of weather. Take good care.
