LONGVIEW — A recently closed hospice center in Longview will reopen later this year through a new partnership between PeaceHealth and Community Home Health & Hospice.
PeaceHealth announced Thursday that the nonprofit health care system would take over operations for the hospice care center on 11th Avenue beginning around the end of November. PeaceHealth spokeswoman Debra Carnes said this was the first hospice partnership PeaceHealth made in Southwest Washington.
Community Home Health & Hospice closed the hospice care center at the end of April, shortly after the longtime nonprofit was purchased by the Vancouver-based Eden Health. Eden Health was certified for in-home hospice care and focused on that service, leaving Community Home Health & Hospice to look for a new partner to take over the hospice building.
“This partnership reflects the commitment of two community-based organizations coming together,” Corey Balkan, the chairman for both the Community Home Health & Hospice Board and the PeaceHealth St. John Community Health Board, said in the press release Thursday. “We honor the legacy of (Community Home Health & Hospice) and the families that have supported it for nearly half a century.”
