La Center volleyball got all it could handle on Tuesday as the Wildcats needed five sets to top King’s Way Christian.
The Wildcats, ranked No. 5 in the Class 1A state coaches poll, won the fifth-set tiebreaker 15-7. That came after King’s Way extended the match by winning the fourth set 25-18.
It’s the first time La Center has been pushed to five sets this season. The Wildcats improved to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in the Trico League.
The Wildcats took the opening set 25-18, but King’s Way (6-3, 2-1) rebounded to win the second set 25-23.
Esther Langeliers had 15 kills to lead La Center. Sofia VanZant had 22 digs and Mia Achziger added 21 digs.
Ellie Mathison led King’s Way with 16 kills and 25 digs. Rayna Fabianek added 20 digs and three aces.

- Janna Croskrey, La Center girls soccer, assisted on half of the Wildcats 10 goals in a 10-0 win over Castle Rock.
- Audrey Davis, Hockinson girls soccer, scored two goals in a 5-0 win over Mark Morris.
- Avery Hoskins, Prairie girls soccer, had two goals and one assist in a 5-0 win over Kelso.
- Emmah Sanchez, Camas volleyball, had five aces and a team-high 19 digs in a 3-0 win over Battle Ground.
- Savannah McMurtry, Evergreen slowpitch, went 3 for 3 with two doubles and knocked in four runs as the Plainsmen beat Prairie 10-0 in five innings.
- Breyelle Box, R.A. Long slowpitch, went hit three doubles, driving in four runs in a 19-8 win over Kelso.
- Shaylie Haij, King’s Way Christian girls soccer, had two goals and one assist in a 3-0 win over Stevenson.
- Alice Anderson, R.A. Long girls soccer, scored a hat trick in a 6-0 win over Woodland.
