Letter: Thanks for stranger’s kindness

On Nov. 19, my wife and I were visiting Vancouver to attend the funeral of a fellow Washington State Patrol friend. Before the services we decided to have breakfast at the Stardust on 164th Avenue. What a pleasant experience. Good food and excellent service.

We enjoyed our breakfast, grabbed our coats and my Army cap and stepped to the counter to pay our tab. While waiting, a tall, nice looking, middle-age man casually stepped closer to me and away from those waiting to be seated and quietly asked, “May I take care of that for you?”

What a humbling experience. I was at a loss for words. Emotions flowed. A time to be proud of those coming behind. I soon realized there is “good” out there and we had just experienced it. Without a name, we would like to publicly say “thank you” to this stellar young man. You made us remember once again we’re proud to be an American. Thank you.
