Letter: Hamas chooses war

There have been a number of letters recently in The Columbian which try to show that the murderous thugs of Hamas, attacking Israeli civilians in an almost unimaginably brutal way, are equivalent to the Israel Defense Forces’ efforts to ensure that Hamas never again has the capacity to threaten Israelis.

In fact, although there are always innocents killed in wars, Israel has gone out of its way to move civilians out of harm’s way, and to warn civilians they are located in buildings on top of the terrorist infrastructure built up by Hamas over the past years.

A master of propaganda and misinformation, Hamas is able to fool gullible Americans into thinking they are interested in peace. Were they, they would not proclaim their intention to attack again and again. There is a time for peace and a time for war. Unfortunately, Hamas has chosen war.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
