GREELEY, Colo. — Dante Chachere accounted for four touchdowns that included a pair of scoring passes late to give Portland State a 27-23 victory over Northern Colorado on Saturday in the season finale.
Chachere’s 7-yard touchdown pass to Elias Spence pulled Portland State within 23-21 and his 3-yard TD run capped a nine-play, 90-yard drive with a minute left. Chachere also had a pair of short-yardage scoring runs in the second and third quarters. He completed 13 of 24 passes for 175 yards and added 123 yards rushing on 18 carries.
Jermaine Braddock made four catches for 72 yards. Christian Grubb ran for 81 yards on nine carries for Portland State (5-6, 4-4 Big Sky Conference).
“We grinded out a win on the road,” Vikings coach Bruce Barnum said on goviks.com website. “We just kept sticking to it. We didn’t need anything magical to happen. We just needed to take care of the ball and play a little smarter. People can say it was an ugly win but I don’t think there are any ugly wins.
