SEATTLE — A pedestrian was killed Friday afternoon after they were struck by a BNSF train in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood.

Crews were responding to the 300 block of South Jackson Street, just north of King Street Station, the Seattle Fire Department said shortly after 3 p.m.

South King Street is blocked in all directions at Third Avenue South, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation.

Firefighters worked to remove the trapped person, but they were pronounced deceased upon arrival. The fire department turned over the response to the Seattle Police Department.

A pedestrian fell from the platform over the train tracks while the train was moving, according to Brian Pritchard, a police spokesperson. No foul play is suspected.

BNSF and Amtrak investigators are at the scene, and the King County Medical Examiner was on the way, Pritchard said.
