A pedestrian wearing dark clothing, but in a marked crosswalk, was killed Monday morning near the intersection of East Mill Plain Boulevard and V Street.

The crash occurred about 6 a.m., before dawn. Vancouver police investigated and reported the pedestrian was crossing Mill Plain in a crosswalk from the south. The vehicle was traveling west, and the driver was unable to stop in time after spotting the pedestrian.

Further investigation showed the pedestrian, whose name was not released, did not activate the overhead crosswalk lights before entering the crosswalk, according to a news release.

The driver, whose name was also not released, was not speeding, impaired or distracted, police said.

The police traffic unit is continuing to investigate.
