For years, Northeast 117th Avenue in Orchards has been a fireworks-stand destination. But fireworks shoppers will have one fewer stand there next summer, as the property south of Northeast 71st Street is under construction.

A mixed-use development is underway at the nearly 13-acre site, expected to bring in hundreds of multifamily units, 11 single-family homes and more than 30,000 square feet of commercial space to an area that is largely known for its single-story commercial and industrial buildings.
