Prep roundup: Columbia River beats Ridgefield for 2A district title

La Center soccer wins 1A district title

Lauren Dreves piled up 46 kills and Macey McCoy added 75 assists as Columbia River won two matches to claim the 2A volleyball district championship Saturday at Tumwater High School.

Lauren Dreves had 23 kills and 17 digs as River beat Black Hills 25-10, 25-16, 25-19 in the semifinals in the morning. McCoy added 33 assists in the win, and Sydney Dreves had 16 kills and 21 digs.

Sydney Dreves had 18 kills and 26 digs in the championship match as River beat Ridgefield 25-13, 25-13, 15-25, 25-15.

Lauren Dreves had 23 kills and 15 digs, while McCoy had 42 assists and eight digs. Ellie Ogee added 22 digs for the Rapids.

La Center wins 1A district title — Billie Ross had 13 kills and five digs, and Esther Langeliers added 14 kills and three blocks as La Center swept King’s Way Christian 25-16, 26-24, 25-19 to win the 1A district championship at King’s Way Christian.

“I can’t say enough about our net game,” La Center coach Cymany O’Brien said. “Our front row did a great job setting the block for our defense to do work.  Whitney Martell was solid at the net. The setters, Bailey España and Quinn Erickson, were moving the ball around really well for our hitters. Another balanced attack.”

La Center 3, Montesano 0 — Shaela Bradley and Madisen Newbury each had a goal and an assist as the Wildcats captured the 1A district championship.

Bradley had an unassisted goal and Newbury assisted on Natalie Maunu’s goal as La Center took a 2-0 halftime lead. Newbury scored in the second half off an assist by Bradley.

Seton Catholic 2, Elma 1, OT-PKs — Hailey Hammerstrom made three saves in the penalty kick shootout as Seton Catholic won the shootout 3-1 to advance to 1A state playoffs.

The match was tied 1-1 after regulation and overtime after a goal off a free kick for Seton by Jessica Barrett.

Dangleis, Rusu are dual district winners — Paige Dangleis of Hockinson and Medea Rusu of Ridgefield both won two events each at the 2A district meet at Shelton.

Dangleis won the 50 freestyle (25.31 seconds) and 100 freestyle (55.24). Rusu won the 200 individual medley (2:16.24) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.12).

Rebecca Yamada of Ridgefield was the other local winner, taking the 100 breaststroke (1:10.14).
