The Woodland defense also used its speed as Logan Busig, Seth Popp and Charles Elkinton wrecked havoc on the vaunted Rochester rushing attack. The Warriors, who came into the game averaging over 400 yards rushing behind an offensive line that averages 260 pounds, were held to 166 yards on the ground.
The victory was Woodland’s sixth win in a row and the Beavers advanced to the 16-team state tournament. Who and where Woodland will be playing will be determined Sunday when the draw is announced.
Logan Armstrong led the Warriors in rushing with 47 yards, and Xavier Peterman added 43, all in the second half. Tate Quarnstrom, who had over 1,000 yards rushing on the season and nearly 200 in Rochester’s win over Tenino a week ago, was held to 34 yards on the ground.
