LA CENTER – La Center dominated the ground game in a downpour at La Center Community Stadium on Friday night, rolling to a 50-7 victory over Elma in the 1A District Playoff football game.
The Wildcats (10-0) ran for 236 yards and four touchdowns in the win, taking advantage of vertical runs on a muddy field that caused players on both sides to lose traction and speed while running quick routes toward the sidelines. As a contrast, the Wildcats defense held Elma (4-6) to negative-30 yards rushing in the game.
La Center quarterback Houston Coyle had 141 yards passing and 80 yards rushing, combining for four touchdowns. Jalen Ward had 109 yards rushing on eight carries, all in the first half.
La Center had just two possessions in the second half, scoring touchdowns on both while capping the scoring in the fourth quarter on a 34-yard interception return through the driving rain from senior Wyatt Eiesland.
