Prep highlights: La Center and King’s Way volleyball, Mountain View girls soccer punch tickets to state

The La Center volleyball team is headed back to the 1A state tournament in Yakima for a third consecutive year after a pair of wins Wednesday at the 1A district tournament.

The Wildcats swept Elma 25-3, 25-20, 25-15 to open the day at Castle Rock, and then beat Trico League rival Seton Catholic in four games 21-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-23 to secure the state berth.

Esther Langeliers had a combined 23 kills in the two matches and Bailey España had 39 assists for Wildcats (20-0).

The Wildcats placed eighth at state last year.

King’s Way Christian is going back to state for the fourth time in the last five tournaments played after two wins Wednesday. The Knights beat Tenino 3-0 in its first match at Montesano High School, and topped host Montesano 3-1. Monte’s first match was a 3-2 win over Castle Rock.

Seton Catholic needs two wins on Saturday to reach state for the first time. The Cougars won their opening match over Hoquiam 3-0. They will next face Castle Rock at 10 a.m. Saturday in a loser-out match. Win that and the Cougars play for state at 1 p.m.

Castle Rock remained alive by eliminating Tenino 3-0.

State pairings will be announced Sunday.

Mountain View girls soccer headed to 3A state

Mountain View beat Capital 5-2 in the 3A bi-district winner-to-state match Wednesday at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma.

Lauryn Krith and Jaleyah Pitre each scored two goals, and Teaghan Irvin had the first goal. Mari Armenta had a hat trick of assists and Lauren Adams assisted on both goals by Pitre.

Pairing for the state tournament will be announced Sunday.

In the later match at Tacoma, Central Kitsap eliminated Prairie 2-0.

And in a match played at Bonney Lake High School, Kentlake ended Evergreen’s season with a 4-0 win.
