The Seton Catholic boys soccer team is headed for the 1A state semifinals for the first time.
Brady Angelo scored scored twice in the second half for the Cougars as they won at No. 2-seed Montesano 2-0 on Saturday to advance to the final four on Friday in Renton.
Angelo first scored off an assist by Easton Ross, then added his second goal with an assist from Teagan Petracca.
Zach Catherall made six saves in goal for the clean sheet.
Seton (16-2-2) will face No. 3 seed Seattle Academy (12-3-4) at 1 p.m. Friday in the first state semifinal.
4A STATE: DAVIS 3, UNION 2 (PK) — Union scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation to tie the match at 2-2, but Davis came out on top in a shootout 4-2 in Yakima.
It was the second time in program history, and first since 2013 that the Titans reached the 4A quarterfinals.
Union ended its season at 16-4-1.
3A girls tennis
Prairie’s Elsa Bice qualified for state by placing fifth at the bi-district tournament in Kent.
Bice beat Susan Hong of Mountain View 6-1, 6-1, and then topped Izzy Wallin of Bishop Blanchet 7-5, 6-1.
Mountain View’s doubles team of Lexi Frost and Brynn DeSantis, who qualified for state on Friday, lost 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals, but then posted an improbable comeback win to place third.
After losing the first set 6-0 to Gig Harbor’s Lindsey Muske and Alexa Lavinder, Frost and DeSantis turned it around to win the match in a super tiebreaker 0-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).
The 3A state tournament is Friday and Saturday at Vancouver Tennis Center.
