Mountain View High School was placed on lockdown for about an hour Tuesday morning while Vancouver police investigated a report of shots heard in a nearby neighborhood.

Police responded at about 9:45 a.m. to the Park Crest Commons apartments, 14913 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd.

Due to the proximity to the high school, Mountain View was placed on lockdown while officers investigated, according to a letter school administration sent to families.

“Officers located several shell casings in the area and some signs with damage,” police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in an email.

Shortly after 10 a.m., officers could be seen talking with people at the apartment complex.

There were no reported injuries, and detectives with the Safe Streets Task Force are continuing to investigate, Kapp said.

The school lockdown was lifted after about an hour, according to the letter.

“Please know we take these situations very seriously, and the safety of our students is always a top priority,” Principal Charles Anthony said in the statement to families.
