Vancouver residents receive Silver Beaver Awards

VANCOUVER – Vancouver residents Steve Curtland and Eric Gorger were among several youth mentors of the Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America who were presented the Silver Beaver volunteerism award on May 1.

Curtland, a math teacher, has offered free math tutoring to scouts. He has been involved in scouting for more than 16 years, starting as an assistant den leader for Pack 610. Recently Curtland became the school adviser for Team 2471 Robotics, where he has recruited mentors and students for a program designed to teach them machining, design, and programming skills.

Gorger is a legal and business consultant with 12 years of experience in scouting. He has served multiple roles with Pack 717, Troops 664, 586, and 5586, Crew 586, Huckleberry OA Chapter, and as a founding member of Troop 5664. Gorger has worked at the district and council level and has been instrumental in maintaining multiple units as a unit commissioner. He currently serves as a district chair.
