We managed to squeeze out a mostly decent day Monday despite clouds and moisture rotating around yet another pesky upper-level low in Southern Oregon. That low on its eastward journey pushed clouds and thunderstorms from the east to us. Most of the activity was south of Vancouver in the Portland area.
Heavy downpours and hail were reported in Oregon. If you looked outside in the late afternoon, there were some black, threatening clouds. It sure appeared something was going to happen I say. As of my writing at 5 p.m. Monday, I didn’t see any thunderstorms in Clark County, but some showers were falling with Dave Campell in the Heisson area reporting nearly an inch of rain in a 20-minute downpour.
Today we begin a transition to more like summer weather taking center stage later in the week. However, we still have some cool air and instability to deal with through Wednesday. We may not reach our average high of 67 degrees today but should enter the 70s on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday through Mother’s Day we switch gears into the “hot” weather regime. Into the 80s Friday and both Saturday and Sunday will be at 90 degrees or hotter. If we get easterly winds on Mother’s Day, we could swelter in the mid- to upper 90s. Whew.
We’ll log in our first 90-degree temperature this year soon. This warm weather began April 27 with 80 degrees, 88 degrees on April 28 and 83 degrees April 29. And now hot weather coming up makes the last two weeks impressive. We shivered prior to that.
