Evan McGuire’s one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Dylan Osborne for the winning run as the Union baseball team fought off Emerald Ridge 6-5 Tuesday in a 4A bi-district loser-out game.
Union took a 4-2 lead with a four-run third inning and added another run in the fifth before Emerald Ridge came back to tie the game with a three-run sixth innings.
With one out in the seventh, Osborne fouled off six pitched before drawing a walk and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.
McGuire came up and singled in the winning run on the first pitch he saw.
It also made him the winning pitcher after he retired the side in the top of the seventh.
Luke Chaney went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and McGuire and Ben Lewis each drove in two runs.
Union, the No. 9 seed, will face No. 8 seed Kennedy Catholic in another loser-out game on Wednesday.
4A BI-DISTRICT: ROGERS-PUYALLUP 4, SKYVIEW 3 — The Storm out-hit Rogers but a seventh inning rally fell short and their season came to an end in the loser-out contest at Heritage Park in Puyallup.
With two out, Dylan Goetz singled to score Gavin Poffenroth, who had hit a one-out single. Skyview’s last gasp ended with a groundout.
2A DISTRICT: COLUMBIA RIVER 11, ROCHESTER 1 — The Rapids had just three hits, but were issued 11 walks in the five-inning, first-round tournament win.
Columbia River will face Tumwater in the semifinals on Wednesday.
2A DISTRICT: TUMWATER 4, HUDSON’S BAY 0 — Tanner Koford’s fifth-inning single was the only hit the Eagles could manage off Tumwater’s Alex Overbay in the first-round tournament loss at Tumwater.
Hudson’s Bay falls into a loser-out game Wednesday against Rochester.
2A DISTRICT: W.F WEST 5, MARK MORRIS 4 — Evan Stajduhar singled with two outs in the seventh to complete the comeback win.
Mark Morris had an early 3-0 lead, and now faces a loser-out game Wednesday against Shelton.
2A DISTRICT: RIDGEFIELD 3, SHELTON 2 — Dillon Kirksey pitched seven solid innings and drove home with go-ahead run in the sixth inning, lifting the Spudders in a first-round game in the 2A district tournament.
The Spudders will play W.F. West in a semifinal game at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex.
Shelton took a 2-0 lead after two innings. Ridgefield cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth. In the sixth, Landon DeBeaumont singled home Deven Savella to tie the game 2-2. Kirksey then singled home Colton Warren for the lead.
Kirksey allowed no earned runs on seven hits over seven innings with eight strikeouts and one walk.
1A DISTRICT: LA CENTER 5, TENINO 4 — Smith Stimmel had a three-run double and Tyler Normine singled home the go-ahead run in a four-run fifth inning that rallied La Center in the 1A baseball district semifinal Tuesday in Castle Rock.
The Wildcats clinched a state tournament berth with the win and will play Montesano in the district title game on Saturday at a site and time to be announced.
Tenino jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Austin Aseph came into pitch, throwing six innings of one-hit, scoreless relief to keep the Wildcats in the game.
La Center loaded the bases in the fourth on two walks and a hit batsman before Stimmel doubled to left to tie the game 4-4.
The Wildcats reloaded the bases on a walk and a Branson Castleberry single before Normine’s infield single put the Wildcats ahead.
1A DISTRICT: SETON CATHOLIC 7, CASTLE ROCK 5 — Max Ackerman scored the go-ahead run on an error in the sixth inning as the Cougars won a loser-out game in the 1A district tournament.
Seton Catholic advances to play Tenino on Friday in a winner-to-state/loser-out game.
After Castle Rock tied the game 5-5 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, Ackerman led off the sixth with a walk. After Case Iverson singled, Ackerman came home on a Castle Rock error. Iverson later scored on a fielder’s choice to add an insurance run.
1A DISTRICT: KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 19, EATONVILLE 2 — The Knights pounded out 13 hits and rolled to the victory in five inning in the loser-out game.
King’s Way will face Elma in another loser-out game on Friday.
