Prep highlights: Mountain View boys soccer gets victory at 3A bi-district

Mountain View kept its season alive by earning a 1-0 win over Timberline in a Class 3A bi-district loser-out boys soccer game on the Thunder’s home field.

Daniel Reyes scored Mountain View’s lone goal on an assist from Abraham Barajas and goalkeeper Owen Purvis recorded five saves to blank Timberline.

No. 9 seed Mountain View, which finished second in the 3A Greater St. Helens League, will play another loser-out game Tuesday at Harry E. Lang Stadium in Lakewood against No. 8 North Thurston or No. 1 Gig Harbor.

4A BI-DISTRICT: UNION 5, SOUTH KITSAP 0 — The Titans won a loser-out game in commanding fashion to advance in the bi-district playoffs.

No. 9 Union faces No. 8 Mount Rainier in a loser-out game Tuesday at Olympia’s Ingersoll Stadium.

4A BI-DISTRICT: EMERALD RIDGE 3, SKYVIEW 1 — The Storm were eliminated from the postseason with a road loss to the Jaguars. Skyview ends the season with a 9-6-2 record.

2A DISTRICT: COLUMBIA RIVER 8, WOODLAND 0 — Alex Harris scored four goals as the undefeated Rapids advanced to the 2A district semifinals.

Tyler Brown also scored twice for River, while Owen McGreevey and Ryland Perron each added one goal. Cole Benner had a team-high two assists.

River will play host to W.F. West on Tuesday in the semifinals, with the winner clinching a state berth and a spot in the district championship game. W.F. West defeated R.A. Long 3-0.

Woodland will face R.A. Long in a loser-out game.

2A DISTRICT: TUMWATER 4, HOCKINSON 1 — The Thunderbirds scored four unanswered goals in the second half to down the Hawks at home.

Hockinson’s Alonzo Flores Barajas scored the game’s first goal, assisted by John Charles, to lead 1-0 at halftime before Tumwater stormed back.

In a loser-out game Tuesday, Hockinson will face Hudson’s Bay at home. The Eagles lost 3-0 to Aberdeen, which advances to the district semifinals to play Tumwater.

1A DISTRICT: MONTESANO 7, LA CENTER 2 — The Wildcats fell into the loser-out bracket with the loss at Montesano.

Ian Johnson scored both goals for La Center, which will play either Elma or Columbia of White Salmon to keep its season alive.

Baseball

3A BI-DISTRICT: BAINBRIDGE 2, MOUNTAIN VIEW 1 — The Thunder had the bases loaded with no outs in the sixth inning, but could only get one run across as they came up short in the pigtail game to conclude their season.

Mitch Johnson’s sacrifice fly scored Jacob Martin to make it 2-1.

Bainbridge, which scored both its run in the second inning, got out of the jam by throwing out a would-be base stealer and getting a strikeout.

Lucas Wolfley singled with two outs in the seventh for the Thunder, however Bainbridge got the game’s final out on a fielder’s choice.

Mountain View finishes the season with a 10-11 record.

2A DISTRICT: SHELTON 8, HOCKINSON 2 — Jarod Oldham hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, but the Hawks couldn’t come back from an early 8-0 deficit in losing the pigtail game at Shelton.

Braeden Bellus went 2 for 2 with a double and scored on Oldham’s home run. Ethan Wall was 2 for 3 with a double for the Hawks, who end their season with an 11-9 record.

Shelton advances to play at top-seed Ridgefield in a first-round game on Tuesday.
