On a day that saw most Southwest Washington high school sports rained out, Union baseball is glad Monday’s game got in.
The Titans beat reigning Class 2A state champion Tumwater 10-3, opening their season on their home artificial turf after Monday’s steady rain had passed.
Tumwater jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with Brayden Oram leading off the game with a home run.
But Union bounced back with two runs in the second and tied the game 3-3 in the fourth.
The Titans erupted for fourth runs in the fifth inning after the first four batters reached base on a single, a walk and two hit batters.
Union’s Blake Geffert went 2 for 2 with a double, triple and three runs scored. Dylan Richardson pitched three innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit.
