CAMAS — Logan Sellers, 16, a junior at Union High School in Camas, served as a page for the Washington state Senate at the state Capitol in Olympia during the week of Feb. 13-17.

Sellers was sponsored by Sen. Ann Rivers, R-La Center. She represents the 18th Legislative District, which covers part of Clark County.

The Senate Page Program gives Washington high school students an opportunity to spend the week working in the Legislature. During their time at the Capitol, pages are responsible for transporting documents between offices, as well as delivering mail and messages. Pages often spend time in the Senate chamber when they are not transporting documents. They attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the how a bill becomes a law. During the week, pages work together to draft their own bills and engage in a mock legislative session.

“I have really enjoyed learning more about our government and getting the opportunity to hang out with security guards,” Sellers said.

During his week at the Capitol, Sellers got the opportunity to work on a mock piece of legislation regarding pet ownership.

“It was very fun making the bill,” he said.

“I really enjoyed the opportunity to have Logan serve as my page this past week. He is a very bright young man with a bright future ahead of him,” Rivers said.

Sellers is involved in Scouts BSA and his school band; he also enjoys working in the student store. He hopes to attend the University of Washington School of Medicine and become a doctor.

Sellers, 16, is the son of Melissa and Sam Sellers of Vancouver.
