The Camas-Washougal Community Chest along with the Camas-Washougal Rotary Foundation and the Camas Lions Foundation just announced the recipients of 31 grants totaling $140,000. All grant recipients are nonprofits committed to delivering services exclusively to children and families in Camas and Washougal, according to a press release.
The 2023 grant recipients are as follows:
- Boy Scouts of America — Cascade Pacific Council to help fund “Campership Awards” for Camas and Washougal families to help send their scouts to summer camp.
- Camas Farmers Market to help fund “Produce Pals,” a weekly program designed to educate kids on where and how food is produced.
- Camas Robotics Booster Club to help fund registration and transportation costs for students to participate in STEM classes and activities.
- Camas Washougal Parent Co-op Preschool to help fund the operating budget, including classroom supplies.
- Cascadia Technical Academy Foundation to help students purchase required uniforms and supplies and to help students’ families meet emergency needs such as a gas card or access to food.
- Children’s Home Society of Washington — East County Family Resource Center to help fund operations including parent education groups, youth support groups, emergency basic assistance, behavioral health services and more.
- East County Citizens’ Alliance to help fund a native pollinator habitat by planting native flowers along Washougal River Road.
- Family Promise of Clark County to help fund the expansion of its program assisting families with services to prevent them from losing their homes.
- Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation to support the summer reading program at the Washougal Community Library.
- Friends and Foundation of the Camas Library to fund several centennial projects including special exhibit displays and a speakers series.
- Friends of the Columbia Gorge to help fund the “Explore the Gorge” classroom lessons and outdoor education for sixth-grade students in the Washougal School District.
- General Federation of Women’s Clubs to help purchase books for children in prekindergarten programs in Camas and Washougal.
- Impact Camas-Washougal — St. Matthew Lutheran Church to help buy food and grocery gift cards for families in need in the Camas and Washougal school districts.
- Inter-Faith Treasure House to help pay utilities so the organization can operate the East County Food Bank.
- Janus Youth Programs to provide funding for outreach efforts and overnight facility stays for at-risk youth.
- Journey Theater Arts Group to fund a portion of the Washburn Performing Arts Center rental fee to present the March production of “Junie B. Jones, the Musical.”
- Kiwanis Camp Wa-Ri-Ki to fund the Outdoor Environmental Education Program.
- Komak to help fund emergency financial assistance for people unable to work and pay bills during cancer treatments.
- Lacamas Watershed Council to help fund volunteer training and buy water quality monitoring equipment.
- Lifeline Connections to help fund youth activities and transportation costs to Camp Mariposa for children of families in need or suffering from substance abuse.
- Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership to provide classroom lessons and outdoor applied learning programs for youth.
- Meals on Wheels People to help fund the expansion of the Medically Tailored Meals Program.
- Pink Lemonade Project to help fund Pink Practicalities, a financial aid and assistance program.
- REACH Community Development to help buy groceries, baby essentials and other basic needs for Gateway Gardens and Towne Square communities in Washougal.
- ReFuel Washougal to help provide supplies to serve to-go meals during Friday meal nights.
- St. Anne’s Episcopal Church Safe Stay Program to help fund operating costs.
- TreeSong Nature Awareness and Retreat Center to help fund a wall heater and electrical wiring to complete its 30-foot yurt.
- Unite! Washougal Community Coalition to fund the Sources of Strength Suicide Prevention Program at Washougal High School and other programs.
- Washougal School District — Principal’s Checkbook to help principals provide basic needs for low-income or homeless students.
- West Columbia Gorge Humane Society to help fund a series of programs and services designed to keep pets and families together during crisis.
- YWCA Clark County to help fund the Independent Living Skills Program.
