A bicyclist died Tuesday night after being hit by a car outside of a crosswalk near the Fircrest neighborhood.
Vancouver police responded at 7:22 p.m. to the 900 block of Northeast 112th Avenue for reports of a crash involving an automobile and a bicycle.
Witnesses told officers the driver had a green light to enter the intersection, police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said. Witnesses also said they saw the bicyclist, who was 58 years old, cross the street outside of the crosswalk before the crash.
Attempts to save the bicyclist’s life were unsuccessful, Kapp said.
The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators. Officers did not note any signs the driver was impaired, Kapp said.
Vancouver police’s Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate. Police have yet to release the names of the driver or the cyclist.
