Two Clark County high school athletes added another accolade to their prep sports résumés this month.

Columbia River High’s Alex Harris (boys soccer) and Skyview Maddie Milhorn (softball) recently were named Washington’s Gatorade Player of the Year honors for their respective sports.

Now in its 38th year, the Gatorade State Player of the Year award recognizes the nation’s most outstanding prep student-athletes for their athletic excellence, academic achievements and exemplary character.

Harris led Columbia River to an undefeated Class 2A boys soccer state championship season tallying 76 goals and 12 assists as a senior. He concluded his three-year career at striker with 134 goals and will join Cornell University’s men’s soccer program this fall.

Harris also earned state Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022 following a 51-goal season.

Milhorn, a pitcher for Skyview, compiled a 17-1 sophomore season with a 0.82 earned-run average and 219 strikeouts leading the Storm to the Class 4A softball quarterfinals. She also hit .586 with 16 home runs and 42 RBI and helped Skyview go 24-3 overall.

Both Harris and Milhorn are two-time Columbian All-Region player of the year honorees for their sports.
