Two people evaded Clark County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday night after running from a vehicle investigators say is connected to a Monday murder-suicide.

Deputies said they learned a vehicle dropped off James Jordan, 45, at Erica Jordan’s Minnehaha-area house just before the shooting. At 11:42 p.m., a deputy spotted a vehicle that matched the suspect vehicle’s description at Northeast 102nd Avenue and 59th Street. When the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, it drove west on Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

After a brief pursuit, the vehicle stopped near Northeast 78th Avenue and Fourth Plain Boulevard. Two occupants ran from the vehicle. Law enforcement officers and a police K-9 searched the area but did not find them, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators confirmed the vehicle was the one connected with the shooting. They seized it as evidence, the news release states.

The sheriff’s office’s Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate.

Investigators said there was an active protection order prohibiting James Jordan from coming within 1,000 feet of Erica Jordan’s residence. Court records indicate he’d repeatedly violated the protection order, and he was most recently arrested for violating it April 4.

Two girls called 911 at about 10:53 p.m. Monday to report their stepfather had just shot their mother and then himself, according to the sheriff’s office.

When first responders arrived at the house in the area of Northeast 42nd Avenue and 56th Street, they found James Jordan and Erica Jordan, 46, inside. James Jordan suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Erica Jordan also suffered a gunshot wound, and she was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. She later died from her injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said the girls are safe with family; the agency has not released their names.
