A third arrest was made Saturday in a Kelso homicide case.
Detectives with the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office identified Carlos Chavez Velazco as a third suspect in the murder of Alan Nielsen on July 15 in Kelso.
Chavez Velazco had fled to Southern California shortly after the murder and was located Saturday by detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Task Force at a support shelter for the homeless and taken into custody.
He is currently in the Los Angeles County Jail awaiting extradition to Cowlitz County.
Suspects Jerome Markert and Jethro Welter were previously arrested during the investigation.
A warrant for Chavez Velazco’s arrest was issued in Cowlitz County Superior Court on May 25 for first degree premeditated murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful disposal of human remains, and explosive devices prohibited.
This investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time.
