The Clark County Council unanimously approved a five-year contract Wednesday with Axon Enterprises for body-worn and dash cameras, along with updated Taser equipment, for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said it anticipates equipping deputies with body cameras in late summer or early fall. Patrol deputies will get the cameras first, followed by specialty units and detectives, then by administrators, according to a news release.

Sheriff’s office vehicles should be fitted with front-facing and rear passenger cameras in early of 2024. The agency said it hopes to finish rolling out all of the equipment by summer 2024.

The council also approved a supplemental budget for additional staffing at the sheriff’s office, the county’s IT department and the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to handle the equipment and data, the sheriff’s office said.

“CCSO will continue to work diligently to earn and maintain trust and accountability with the community and believes this program is an important step in that process,” the news release states.
