For those of you that enjoy warm weather I hope you were outside Monday and soaked in that beautiful sunshine. Things are going to change for a while as the jet stream slowly sags southward and we feel the effects with more clouds and cooler temperatures.
We introduce showers over the upcoming weekend and temperatures drop with the rain as they did last Friday when Vancouver picked up .15 of an inch of rain. Highs will be in the 60s Sunday and Monday.
Today through Friday our high temperatures should hover near seasonal normals, which are in the low 70s. I mentioned here the other day that forecast models were hinting of clouds and showers in the June 16-21 time frame. So, I guess we go with the flow.
If you have outdoor plans that require dry weather, get them done before the weekend or put them off for a while. We have certainly had many days of summerlike weather beginning back in May. Now I guess June wants to behave in a more typical fashion; shall we mention June gloom?
I won’t call it that because I don’t believe the downturn in the weather will last long enough to get anyone depressed. We all should have had a good dose of vitamin D by now. Our average mean temperature so far this month is running 2.5 degrees above average. In the rainfall department Vancouver has a scant .16 of an inch, which is more than three-quarters of an inch below average. Warm and dry so far would be the synopsis.
With a cooler air mass moving in tonight’s low temperatures may drop well into the 40s, especially in the outlying areas. Also, brisk west to northwest winds will increase. You will feel the change. Even though our highs will lower closer to normal, we will miss the 80-degree high temperatures in the forecast.
Usually, June is one of our cloudiest months with the usual daytime hours of morning clouds, although it seems the weather this year is far from normal. And as I always say, normal is only a collection of extremes. We’ll chat on Thursday.
