Sweets use seven-run third inning to win series

WALLA WALLA — The Sweets sent 12 batters to the plate in a seven-run third inning to take two of three games from Ridgefield in the weekend series.

Walla Walla led 12-4 after tacking on two more runs in the fourth inning.

Key plays

— Ridgefield took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Andy Allenson’s two-run home run, the big first baseman’s second of the season.

— Walla Walla scored two runs in the bottom of the second after loading the bases with no out. Kennedy Hara’s RBI single tied the game 2-2 and chased Ridgefield starter Eastyn Culp.

— Ridgefield jumped back ahead 4-3 on a two-out RBI single by Julian Nunez in the top of the third.

— After the first two Walla Walla hitters made outs, the next nine Sweets reached base in the third inning. That included five singles, three hit by pitch, one walk and Logan Meyer’s two-run double.

— Ridgefield scored a run in the eighth inning when Nunez came home after an error on a grounder hit by Jake Tsukada.

—Nick Alder (Linfield/Columbia River HS) had four strikeouts over 2.1 innings in relief, allowing three hits, two runs (one earned) and no walks.

— Camden Oram (Lower Columbia) pitched three perfect innings in relief, striking out three.

Top Ridgefield hitters

— Andy Allenson (College of the Canyons) went 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.

— Julian Nunez (San Diego CC) went 2 for 4.

— Seven of nine batters in the Ridgefield order hit safely as the Raptors collected 11 base hits.
