Weather Eye: Fair skies continue, with only a slight chance of rain next week

Our fair skies and warm temperatures continue. On Friday, there were no warnings, watches or advisories in all of Washington and Oregon.

We do have another weak trough of low pressure skimming across southern British Columbia on Monday and Tuesday, with a chance of showers to our north. A sprinkle or morning drizzle could make it to Clark County. Watch the clouds to our north as the new week begins.

Otherwise, Sunday through Friday next week should see highs of 80 to 85 degrees.

Our average temperature for the first three weeks of this month is 72.5 degrees, over 4 degrees above normal. We saw only a trace of morning drizzle earlier in the month. Will we add anything measurable Monday or Tuesday? It would be nice if we did, but don’t count on it.

We didn’t make it to 90 degrees on Thursday, only 88, so we sit at 12 days of 90 degrees or higher this year. We will remain seated until August unfolds.

In July 2022, we had 12 days that were 90 degrees or higher; two of those were over 100 degrees. This year, it has taken us nearly three months to log 12 days of 90-degree highs.

The Perseid meteor shower has begun and will peak around Aug. 13. This year, there will be little moonlight during the peak of the activity. When August arrives, on those warm summer evenings, get comfortable in the backyard lounge chair and gaze to the heavens. You may also score a chorus or two from the annual harmony of the crickets.
